La cancion "Nothing Else Matters" fue escrita por el cantante y guitarrista de la banda James Hetfield, y es acreditada a el mismo y a Lars Ulrich, baterista de la banda. El tema no estaba en los planes que sea publicado, ya que era algo personal de James, pero con el toque que le dio Lars, se la escogió para lanzarla en el Black Album.

El grupo se formo en el año 1981 y lanzaron su primer álbum de estudio en el año 1983.
Su estilo de música es thrash metal, heavy metal, hard rock, power ballad.
Son considerados uno de los 4 grupos mas importantes del thrash metal, junto a Anthrax, Megadeth y Slayer.
