Su estilo de música es rock, rock alternativo, new wave, post punk.
Sus miembros mas significativos fueron Rik Ocasek y Benjamin Orr, este ultimo falleció en el año 2000.
Lanzaron su primer álbum de estudio en 1978, llamado "The Cars".
